    Back by public demand!

Although strictly speaking Main Source debuted in 1989, and released their infamous 'Breaking Atoms' lp in 1990; '91 ended up being their breakthrough year.

Originally signed to Actual records, the trio of K-Cut, Sir Scratch & Large Professor dropped their first single 'Think b/w Atom' in 1989 and returned with 'Watch Roger Do His Thing' the following year.

Part way through that year, Main Source switch labels to the indie-giant Wild Pitch and released 'Looking At The Front Door' featuring their previous single on the b-side.

'Breaking Atoms' followed towards the end of the year and they stomped into 1991 with their next 12" 'Just Hangin Out b/w Live At The Barbeque'. The classic b-side posse cut featured the talents of Akinyele and Nas on wax for the first time ever.

Their rep continued to grow throughout 1991, and they became a mainstay on Yo! MTV Raps. A remix of 'A Friendly Game Of Baseball' appeared on the soundtrack of the smash movie 'Boyz In The Hood', and a new video gained rotation on MTV for their final single of the year 'Peace Is Not The Word To Play'

'Breaking Atoms' was voted as many peoples favourite lp of 1991, with almost the whole world forgetting it actually came out the year before - either way it entered the gates of Hip Hop Immortality, not only as the best lp of the year - but possibly the best of it's generation.

1992 started pretty much like the year before, with Main Source working hard on a follow up lp. Their first effort was a collobaration with The Brand New Heavies ('Bonafide Funk') and it was used to promote BNH's forthcoming 'Heavy Rhyme Experiance' project.

Next up was 'Fakin The Funk', which found it's way onto the 'White Men Can't Rap EP' and everything was all gravy.....or so it appeared.

Shortly after the release of 'Fakin' Main Source imploded, Large Pro cited musical differences with Cut & Scratch and the trio disappeared from whence they came.

Extra P went away from the limelight and got behind the boards, assisting the likes of Mobb Deep, Nikki D, Leaders Of The New School, Slick Rick and Nas (to main but a few) to score hit records.

Cut and Scratch ressurected the Main Source name in 1994 with the help of Mikey D. 'Watch You Need' was an underground smash, but while it's follow up single 'Diary Of A Hitman' was being pressed - Wild Pitch folded. Their 2nd lp 'Fuck What You Think' was shelved, only to re-appear as a bootleg a couple of years later.

Large Pro's luck wasn't much better, he managed to release two singles "The Mad Scientist" & "I Juss Wanna Chill" before his label Geffen dropped him prior to the release of his debut "The LP". Again this album re-appeared on bootleg later in the 90's.

The original trio never kissed and made up; so Extra P continued to earn a rep as one of the hottest producers during the 90's. He did manage to get out an lp of his own in 2002, but 'First Class' failed to recapture his form as one of the best producers on the mic.

We feature 'Watch Roger Do His Thing', 'Looking At The Front Door', 'Just Hangin Out', 'Peace Is Not The Word To Play' and 'Fakin The Funk' videos for your visual pleasure, as well as an exclusive studio performance of 'Fakin' from 1992 - days before they split up.

    Peace out!
